I got nothing for you right now. I’m still just trucking away at work and trying to get ahead on things before going AWOL over the weekend for Riot Fest so, instead of wracking my brain for a catchy intro, let’s just jump right in to “Why I Had To Go” from Half Minded.
I love how bouncy this song is and how oh so very pop-punk it is, but also how it comes with this sense of metal sensibilities sprinkled throughout. The mix of pop-punk and metal is not anything super new or life-changing, but the way that Half Minded does it is so flawless, smooth, and unique. The beginning of the track is smooth and calm enough, but after a while, you can feel the tension build, and then the song takes a turn into a world of angst and aggression. It all comes to an end with a dazzling guitar solo that feels anthemic and oh so powerful, as if daring you to forget about this song and Half Minded as you move on with your day.
