Although I’m caught up on day job stuff, my warehouse is not, which means I’ve been spending some quality time out there this morning and will continue to do so through the day. I’m not thrilled about it but it sure does make time go fast. Don’t worry, though, I will still pop back into my office every once in a while to “check emails” (meaning share out a new song).
Lake Rana is a pop-punk songwriter who has remained fairly anonymous for now but I don’t see that lasting long. Especially not after hearing “Sink,” the second single from Lake Rana’s debut album ‘Funeral for a Fish’ (which is due out soon). This song starts every way a good pop-punk song should– with a catchy but understated hook. Although the beginning of this song is slightly unassuming, it’s when you hear the vocals that this song really begins to soar. It’s Tom DeLonge, but with an energy that feels more like State Champs. Stylistically, this song dabbles in those same worlds. It’s definitely chill pop-punk, best listened to when just trying to make it through another day of the daily grind but there’s this little extra razzle dazzle behind it to help get your blood moving. Long story short, “Sink” may be the first you’re hearing from Lake Rana but it surely won’t be the last.
