Things aren’t great here in America. I feel like that goes without saying. That being said, it’s not even half as bad as other places in the world. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to live through what is happening with the Russian-Ukrainian war, but after listening to “Fear of War” from Völkslieder and Dory-Loup, I feel like I have a slight understanding of what it may feel like.
The emotion throughout “Fear of War” is heavy as it should be. This song came out of the early stages of the aforementioned conflict. It’s written from the perspective of a father who just feels so overwhelmed by the noise of modern life. Although this was written for this specific setting, I feel like the weight of these words translates into so many other things. This is not me trying to lessen what is happening across the world but more the realization that, although a world away and living a completely different life, there are still relatable aspects of how we all feel a bit overwhelmed with everything happening on this planet. Not ready to get this deep on a Tuesday morning? Have no fear, on top of the emotion and weight of this track is an infectiously catchy song. At only two minutes long, “Fear of War” moves quickly, so hang on tight and enjoy the ride.
