Girl at the Rock Shows

As a full-blood workaholic, it’s hard to remember that, at the end of the day, I am not a robot. I think that’s the first thing that drew me to this song– the band name We Are Not Robots. Something about reading that and seeing it on my computer screen, amongst a plethora of open tabs all coinciding with a different job or project, made me stop and take a breath. I needed that breath as much as I needed to hear “A Punch” from this band.

Although this song is about the aftermath of the collapse of a relationship, I feel like it has a vibe to it that can relate to any day where you’re just struggling ever so slightly to see the light at the end of the tunnel. There’s a sense of desperation and hopelessness at moments throughout this nearly four-minute-long song, but there are also moments of triumph and euphoria that seem to juxtapose the darker moments of this song. It reads like a day. The highs, the lows, the moments you want to tip over your desk, and the moments that you find yourself being perfectly content with your life, if only for a fleeting moment. All of these things give We Are Not Robots its edge as a band. They know how to speak to not only your ears, but your soul, and I can not wait to spend some time today with their EP with the same name as this song, ‘A Punch.’
