In just three days, it will be the 50th anniversary of Queen’s iconic song, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” so why not celebrate with a truly interesting and fresh take on the track? I’m not one to typically share out cover songs. As I’ve mentioned before, it takes a special cover song to hook me. I don’t want just a cover; I want a reimagination, and to say that this song is a reimagination feels like such an understatement.

As the name of this act may suggest, this is a dulcimer cover of the legendary track. What is a dulcimer? You’ll recognize it as something familiar when you hear it, but basically, it’s a fretted string instrument with three or four strings on it (in this case, three). I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever seen a dulcimer played live, but it quickly became clear in listening to this song that it takes quite a bit of talent to get so many sounds and emotions out of just three strings, but Sam Edelston does it so well and makes it sound so easy. I’ll be honest, this isn’t the most exciting thing you’ll hear all day but it caught me just due to the sheer musicianship and the creativity that it must have taken to take such an epic track and pair it down into something that can be played by just one instrument (with the help of a bass and a drum kit) while keep the life and spirit of Queen alive through it all.
