Girl at the Rock Shows

I’ll never forget the first time I saw NOFUN! perform live when they opened for Atmosphere at First Avenue back in November 2023. They blew me away with their performance and sound. It was a familiar sound, but there was something so unique and catchy about it. I was hooked and have gone on to see this collective nearly every time they’ve come to town since then. Unfortunately, it’s been a hot minute since they have been in the Twin Cities, but at least I have some new music from them, like “RIOT,” to keep me going.

“RIOT” is, well, it’s a riot! This is such a fun track, but don’t let the playful energy of this song distract you from the sheer talent it showcases. What I love about NOFUN! is that they are a true collective. It’s a group of nine people who each bring their own style and flavor to the collective sound, creating something fresh, recognizable, yet new. That’s exactly what you get in this song. “RIOT” is an infectious song that will make you want to get up and jump. It does a great job of capturing the energy of NOFUN!’s live performance and translating it into a track. That’s something many bands try to do, but ultimately struggle to pull off. NOFUN! makes it seem easy. I wish I had more to say here but, truthfully, as this song played through, I just let it take me over and get me in that Friday mood that I’ve been hoping to fall into since I woke up this morning.
