Happy Tuesday, everyone. I hope your week has started off right. Mine has, and after a night off spent with some trashy TV and take-out dinner, I’m feeling rested and ready to take on what is sure to be an insane rest of my week. I really don’t have anything huge to share with you right now, so let’s just jump right into some new music, starting with “Covers” from Lake Rana and Loveshark.
The fourth track from Lake Rana’s debut album ‘Funeral for a Fish,’ “Covers” wastes no time getting you hooked into Lake Rana’s distinct sound. It’s definitely a blend of emo and pop-punk but there’s something about this song that feels refreshing and unique. Although there are glimmers of familiarity throughout this three-minute-long song, I feel like there is also this feeling of never knowing what’s going to come next. From the instrumentation to the vocals, the way the notes and words move throughout this song is slightly unpredictable in all of the right ways. When you think the song is going to go left, Lake Rana goes left. When you think a line of notes is going to rise, they fall. It’s something that keeps you on toes at the same time as making you fall deeper and deeper in love with both Lake Rana and Loveshark.
