Will it snow today? I sure hope so, but the weather people don’t seem too sure. It sounds like we are either going to get hit hard or get nothing at all. It’s kind of frustrating because how I’m going to spend my time after work hinges on the weather. Okay, it doesn’t really, but if we do get the six inches of snow that some meteorologists are saying, I’m thinking a cozy night in is in order. If we don’t get it, I have my eyes on a local show happening across town. This all has nothing to do with “Route 23” from Danny Justice but I’m hoping that checking this song out this morning can help soothe my anxious soul.
There’s something so powerful about this song. Obviously, you hear power in the instrumentation that kicks the track off, but it’s more than that. There’s power in the vocals and, more importantly, power in the message of this song. As Danny Justice explains, “The song is essentially about my deployment to Iraq back in 2007, missing home, finally making it back home, settling down, and living a life of peace.” There’s something almost painful in that message, and I love how you get subtle hints of that slight pain throughout this song, but overall, “Route 23” comes off as an infectious and triumphant bop. Stylistically, this song splits the difference between pop punk and alt-rock but adds a little southern swagger twist here and there. Like I said, powerful song with a beautiful message, “Route 23” from Danny Justice is the right way to kick off your Tuesday morning.
