I am the queen of having a cluttered mind. With a full-time job, three companies, and a plethora of extracurricular activities, my mind always has about a million and twelve tabs open. That sounds miserable, I know, but, for me, I work best under pressure and stress. Sure, sometimes it gets to be a lot, but on days like today, it keeps me going and feels oddly invigorating. That’s not exactly what this song is about, but don’t let that stop you from checking out “Cluttered Mind” from Up From Here.
“Cluttered Mind” is actually about the poor communication that often happens early on in a relationship. Thankfully for me, this is not something I have to worry about anymore, as I have been happily committed to the same partner for the past four years, as of just a couple of days ago, but I still feel like everything about this pop-punk bop is relatable. Although that’s what it’s really about, per the band, I feel like there’s a message behind this song that relates to life in general, and that message is basically that things can get messy, but you have to keep your head up and just fix the problems and change rather than succumb to the stress that they may create. Okay, I may be off on that, but even so, the energy and infectious beat of this song will surely get you, whether or not you pick up on the same messages I did. It’s a classic pop-punk tune with a bit of a modern twist, a la Real Friends and Knuckle Puck. Whether you need a relatable song or just a song to rock out to, Up From Here is your band and “Cluttered Mind” is your song.
