Girl at the Rock Shows

It was April 2024 when I last caught Shadow Lake. Although that was kind of a rough show for me, as the majority of the bands weren’t quite my thing, Shadow Lake stood out due to the fact that, not only were they absolutely my thing, but they hit me with an insane Lady Gaga cover that I still think about often to this day. Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to catch them live again since that night last April, but after hearing their new song “Self-Inflicted,” I know that is something I need to change immediately.

This song is as powerful as it is dramatic. The amount of emotion that radiates through the entirety of this song is nothing short of staggering, and the perfection of the song itself is just the icing on the cake. I love how the vocals felt a bit like old-school Silverstein, but with a lean more toward the tender. Don’t get me wrong, there are moments of angst and aggression that pop out from this song so perfectly, but overall, it has a more tender approach, which I really liked because it proves that this band can do it all. The official lyric video isn’t anything exciting. Although the visuals are super cool, it didn’t add much for me, but that’s okay! “Self-Inflicted” is the kind of song that stands on its own.
