Girl at the Rock Shows

I’m feeling feisty today. I’m not sure what it is. I got my normal level of not enough sleep and am sipping on my usual level of too much coffee yet I’m feeling feisty and spicy. There’s nothing wrong with this if you ask me. In fact, I am loving it because I’m getting things done left and right but I have a feel there are other people around me right now that are kind of over it. Either way, I’m embracing it and feel that “You’ve Got Male” from WENCH and Jodie Langford is fitting this mood oh so perfectly.

“You’ve Got Male” is nothing short of a party. You can feel it instantly even though the beginning of this song starts off as feeling simple and plain. It doesn’t take long for WENCH and Jodie to snag your heart and drag you into their world of riot grrrl energy and playful words. Maybe “playful” isn’t quite the right word to use when it comes to the lyrics of this song but I think it works because this song is about all of the stupid things that men can say when it comes to them talking about women. As I listened to this song, I reflected back on my Sunday night when a girlfriend and I were sitting at our neighborhood bar for a few drinks. The conversation happening next to us was absurd and laughable. It was a couple of men plotting how they were going to go down to the other end of the bar and start talking to a couple of women that were down there. I won’t go into detail but it was nothing short of appalling to hear how they were planning on stalking their prey before pouncing. I only wish that I had known of this song as that was happening because it would have been the perfect soundtrack the entire experience.
