Things are still far from normal here in Minneapolis. In fact, I fear that things are only getting worse. I still feel guilty for going on with my life and sharing out new music for you all but, at the same time, I need my sanity back. I need some sense of comfort while swimming in these uncharted waters and need some new music in my life to keep me going through the craziness so I will do just that– go back to checking out new music. This is not to be insensitive at all to what is going on on the ground here but more to give everyone a little breath here and there so I hope you do just that, check out these songs and take a breath before going out there, boots on the ground, and fighting the insanity that is trying to take over our beautiful state.
Honestly, the message behind “Bouquet” from JOY DRIP is one that fits today beautifully. Although it’s a song about processing addiction and recovery and asking someone to find a different outlet for their pain outside of bad habits, I feel like the overall tone and vibe of this song fits what’s happening here so perfectly. There’s a beautiful calm to this song but also an irrefutable sense of angst and grit at the same time. That grit and angst seems to match the feeling in the air here in Minneapolis so perfectly while that calmness helps with that moment to breathe that I mentioned. Stylistically, this song is situated in a world between post-hardcore and emo and the way that JOY DRIP brings these two clashing worlds together in such a harmonious way is just the cherry on top to a perfect track.
