Girl at the Rock Shows

I feel like maybe I should stop talking about what’s happening up here in the Twin Cities in this blog. It’s a downer and oh so very scary for everyone living up here regardless of your immigration status or color. This blog it meant to be a happy place (unless the bands I am seeing/ covering suck) and bringing up what’s happening here right now is making this a bit of a dreary place. That being said, the music that I am finding right now is speaking to my heart. It’s keeping my head up high and my spirit as high as it can go right now so, no, I will not stop mentioning what’s happening up here right now but, at the same time, I will not stop trying to find little bright spots in the form of new songs that are speaking to me and helping me through these dark and trying times such as “Shade of Green (It’s a no from me)” from Frog Fortress.

“Shades of Green (It’s a no from me)” is the first song off of Frog Fortress’ new EP and it is absolutely pop-punk perfect. Right off the bat, I fell in love with the vocals. I’ll admit, they’re a bit nasally but, as we all know, that can take an okay pop-punk song and turn it into a certified banger (just look at Blink 182) and I feel like it has the same effect on this song. On top of that vocal style is the heart that comes through in this song. Yeah, this is a pop-punk bop that breathed a sense of life and energy into me that I so badly needed this morning but there was also this tender touch to portions of the song that lulled my restless and anxious heart back into a regular rhythm. Whether you need a pick-me-up or, like me, just need a minute to disassociate but don’t want to drift too far away, I highly suggest you check out this song from Frog Fortress.
