Girl at the Rock Shows

We’ve made it to the weekend, my friends. We’ve made it. It feels good to be here but also a bit daunting. What is this weekend going to bring? Honestly, I feel like that’s a question all of us up here in the Twin Cities have been asking daily at this point and, although I don’t know what today is going to bring, I know that I can start it off right by checking out some new music to get me moving starting with “gaslight” from 1blackfrend.

“Gaslight” is 1blackfrend’s sophomore release meaning they are still a fairly new band but, if this single is any indication as to what’s to come from this band, I suggest you start following them immediately. As the band puts it, “This song is about an ex friend who rewrote my reality.” Think about that for one second and try and tell me that’s not super relatable. Beyond the too-close-to-home message, this song is catchy in all of the right ways. There’s drama behind it. The style of the track seems to teeter on the edge between good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll and something a bit more punk but, at the same time, something catchy like indie pop. It’s a cool song with a vibe that seems to be all over the place but 1blackfrend somehow brings all of these contrasting elements together to form a song and sound that will surely get stuck in your head and leave you wanting more from this band.
