Girl at the Rock Shows

I should be outside enjoying this unseasonably warm weather and the very inviting sun out there but, instead, I’m chained to my desk and a box of tissues. I think this early thaw has spurred something up in the air that is causing my allergies to completely pop off. Honestly, I’m miserable but, at the same time, I’ve loved having a day of getting caught up on work and checking out some new music like “Pauvre de Moi” from Chalk Hands.

I introduced you to Chalk Hands just a couple of weeks ago when I shared out “Breaking Waves” but, in case you weren’t paying attention then, let me remind you just how amazing this band is by telling you about this new single. The second single from Chalk Hands’ upcoming album ‘The Line That shapes the Coast of Us’ is super powerful. I mean, insanely powerful. The instrumentation that kicks this song off will definitely act like a bit of a shove to your heart. The vocals that follow will act as knives and pins to said heart. Okay, that doesn’t sound super delightful, I know, but in a world where everything happening on the outside seems to make us more and more numb with every passing day, the sheer amount of emotion and angst that I felt as I listened to this song was beautifully staggering. This song isn’t all intensity and angst, after about a minute, things back down into a moment of peace and calm. I found myself lost in my own head and thoughts during this part for better or for worse. Just when I was starting to go down the dark and twisty maze of my mind, Chalk Hands brings the intensity back up and ends this track with a fierce and blistering sound. Chalk Hands describes their music as “loud sad songs” and, honestly, I think that’s the perfect way to describe “Pauvre de Moi”.
