After a weeklong sabbatical, I’m back at the office. It feels nice to be back in some sort of a routine, but my day job is absolutely dead today (and will surely be dead the rest of the week), which is making it hard to concentrate on anything. I know I should take this time to get caught up on all of my other things, but, honestly, I want to be at home on the couch watching more crappy TV while being cuddled up with the cats. That’s not an option, so I need to find comfort elsewhere, and I’m hoping that by checking out some new music I can find the motivation to get stuff done today.

“Breaking Waves” is the first single from Chalk Hands’ second album, which is due out in March. This song is intense and an absolute rollercoaster ride of emotions in all of the right ways. The way this band balances the feelings of light and dark throughout this song is nothing short of genius. Although overall, this is an aggressive and hard-hitting track, there are moments of breaths throughout the song that really help contrast that intensity with a sense of perfectly curated restraint and creativity. The band claims that this song leans more into the light and is one of the more upbeat tracks of this album. Although I find that a bit hard to believe, as this song is so intense, it has me so excited to hear more from Chalk Hands and has me counting down the days until their full album is released.
