Girl at the Rock Shows

Today is my first day back at the radio show after our annual J-Term break. Honestly, I’m stoked to get back into it. I love co-hosting and love getting to meet local musicians that I may or may not have ever heard of. Honestly, I’m almost nervous about getting back into it. Will I remember what to say? What buttons to push? I’m nervous, anxious, and have about ten minutes before I have to leave the house. Instead of pacing to calm those nerves, I figure now is a perfect time to check out a new song and see if it helps get me more ready for the air.

“Al Bundy (and a Semester of Fraud)” is the perfect song for me right now. This is a fast and infectious pop-punk bop with vocals that come at you just a bit harder than other pop-punk bands. The overall vibe of this song is definitely giving me No Pressure vibes and a slight Knuckle Puck sentiment but those comparisons just don’t do this song justice. Beyond the endless energy that radiates from this song, I love the lyrics. You know me, I’m not going to give them all away but I will say that the lyrics follow the classic pop-punk pattern with a twist. Although they have an undeniable sense of self-awareness kind of like a Hot Mulligan song, there’s something optimistic about the way they are presented. Don’t get me wrong, they will absolutely strike a chord with you if you were ever a pop-punk kid who used to cry to Mayday Parade in your room (Mo? That was just me?) but there’s just something almost comforting about some of the words. Long story short, this was the song and the energy I needed this morning.
