I should be getting ready for a show right now but, instead, I just woke up from a nap and am already wondering if it’s time for another one. I hate being sick but, when I do get sick, I make it count like right now. It’s frustrating. Mentally, I’m all here but physically, I’m worn down and can’t stop coughing and sneezing. I hate this feeling and hate wasting time on the couch so hopefully checking out some new music can at least keep me motivated enough to work tonight rather than just falling asleep again.

Four-piece So-Called is a pop-punk band from Casper, Wyoming and they are quickly turning into my new favorite band. Every song I hear from them is solid and catchy with their new track, “Nothing New,” being no exception. Right off the bat, this song reminded me a bit of old school The Movielife but with a bit more angst in the vein of The Story So Far. There’s a Belmont-styled tenderness scattered throughout this song in both the presentation and word choice of certain lines and phrases. The beat throughout this three minute and eleven second song is strong and powerful but it seems to bend and obey that slight tenderness from the vocals. This band is fueled by a DIY ethic meaning they have been grinding since the beginning and I love that you can hear that almost raw sense of desperation throughout this song. I may have to give in to another nap here soon but I am so glad that I spent some time with this song if only for a small burst of energy.
