Girl at the Rock Shows

I just got a severe weather alert on my phone and I can now hear ice pelting my window. That’s right folks, it’s time for a random little ice storm that will surely make the drive home in a couple of hours less than thrilling unless it warms up quickly later this afternoon. I’m not going to think about that though. Instead, I’m going to look at this as an opportunity to check out “From Your Mouth” from Storm Boy because, well, Storm is right there in the name– see what I did there?

“From Your Mouth” is absolutely a storm of a song. It’s energized and powerful but it also has this feeling of knowing you who are behind it. What do I mean by that? Well, outside of a few songs that I’ve heard before from this band, I know very little about Olympia, Washington-based Storm Boy but there was something about this song and video that instantly made me feel like we were long time friends. It’s a free-feeling song abut finding your “thing.” It’s about finding that spark, finding what keeps you alive. Clearly, for me, that’s my cats and live music but I know it took me a long time to find those things. This song urges you to look at your heart and find what your “thing” is in such a beautiful way. The video was shot by a whole slew of community photographers and shows people just living life and smiling while doing everything from skateboarding to biking to rocking out at a Storm Boy show. Really, it’s all quite simple but it just enhances this song in such a perfect way.
