I still have a full review to write, hundreds of photos from last night’s show to go to, and a radio show to do this morning. Spending time diving into a new song probably isn’t quite what I should be doing right now but it’s the way I want to start my Sunday so, screw it, let’s take a listen to some new music starting with “Wither” from Bayline.
Bayline is not a new-to-me band. I spent a lot of time with them back in 2023 and even reviewed their album ‘I CHOOSE LOVE’ in December of 2023. I loved the band but, then, after many singles and that amazing album, the band went silent on me. I still went back to that album from time to time but craved something new and was stoked when “Wither” came across my desk. You can tell that the little break did this band good. They are back with a revamped line-up and an insane amount of energy which comes through loud and clear in this three minutes single. One of the four tracks that will form a new EP, “Wither” is intense and dramatic. It’s full of emotion and leans into the angsty side of things but has these moments of pure, calming bliss. This song is about taking a leap into the unknown. It’s about being afraid of change but plunging into uncharted territories anyway. I love how the sound of this song matches that. You can feel a slight hesitation, almost a nervous energy at times, but then you can feel the plunge, the jump off the cliff. This is exactly what I needed to jumpstart my heart and energy level on a sleeping and cold Sunday morning.
