Girl at the Rock Shows

I’m having a pretty dang good day today but it’s been a bit rough lately for me. I’m not sure what it is but I’ve just been asking myself a bunch of “What if” questions. I know it’s a waste of time and I know that you can’t live questioning everything but over the past couple of weeks, I’ve had this feeling and worry that maybe I screwed it all up so, naturally, I was instantly drawing to “Screwing Your Life Up” from Continental Lovers.

Thankfully, this song isn’t as daunting and helpless feeling as the song title may lead you to believe. The grungy and fuzzed-out punk anthem is full of big hooks and, as the band puts it, sweet looks. Given the title of this track, I thought this was going to be a song where the lyrics made me feel seen almost to a fault but that’s not the case. Honestly, I found it hard to understand the words throughout this song just due to the sheer amount of fuzz that came with them but the energy kept me hooked. It’s retro but it’s punk. It’s full of life but it’s not super aggressive or even super fast. Really, “Screwing Your Life Up” from Continental Lovers is just one of those songs that hooks you even though you can’t quite put your finger on why. Don’t question it. Fall into this song and in love with Continental Lovers.
