I don’t know if it was seeing Too Many Zooz on Sunday or what but music featuring horns (of any kind) is just hitting particularly hard for me right now. From Lucky Chops to Meute to Sorry Sweetheart, my playlist is far more bombastic than my energy but I’m loving it and I am so excited to have “Uh-Oh” from The Selectment to add to the mix.
The Selectmen are an 8-piece band and you can feel that but also can’t. What do I mean by that? Well, the sound behind this song is huge and definitely feels like it’s made up of eight different instruments and personalities but, at the same time, this band is so tight that it’s hard to imagine that eight musicians, all with a different flavor and spice, can come together and play something so tightly woven and perfect. Stylistically, “Uh-Oh” bridges the page between a ska and classic rock ‘n roll sound. It has this 70s styled punk attitude to some of the words and phrases but it also has this boisterous ska energy that reminds me a lot of bands like Mighty Might Bosstones and even Reel Big Fish. To say that this song is catchy is an understatement so brace yourself and make sure that your dancing shoes are tied before going on the journey that is “Uh-Oh” from The Selectment.
