I feel like a lot of people and bands are putting out protest songs right now as they should but some hit harder than others. It’s not that any of these have hearts in the wrong spot I mean, a protest song is a worthy song to check out. But some bands just kind of lack of the grit and fire that comes with the act of protesting. Not Horsewreck. They captured that grit and every other feeling that comes with protest in their new track “Right Mind.”

Honestly, it took me a second to recognize this as a protest song. It starts off like a great pop-punk jam but, as it goes on, you get a little insight onto just how political this band can get. Whether it’s about nationalism, authoritarianism, anti-immigrant rhetoric, this song seems to hit on it all and with the perfect amount of angst and grit. The song talks about how absurd it is to just blindly follow something you may not actually know about or believe in. Although I feel like this song absolutely captures the grit and triumphant energy that all good protest songs should have, Horsewreck brings an undeniable sense of infectious bop-a-bility to the track. I love this because, with living here in the Twin Cities, I feel like it’s been nothing but angsty protest songs lately. Those are all great but I feel like they can almost make you feel a bit more helpless than triumphant. That’s not the case here. “Ring Mind” from Horsewreck not only encourages you to fight the system, it also encourages you to dance and both of these things are absolutely worthy of your time in this day and age.
