You all know I love Fridays for all of the new music that gets released but sometimes a not-so-new song sneaks into my posts on Fridays. Case in point – “Tightened Up the Noose” from Ed Valdette. This song may be four months old but, honestly, I had never heard of Ed Valdette before hearing this song and assume you haven’t either. Ed may not be a household name and this may be his debut single but it’s clear that we can expect big things from Ed in the near future.
This song is so fun and so full of life but, not all is as it seems. This song is actually super deep and, quite frankly, dark. It’s about finding love, looking at it right in the face, and then trying to run away from it. Honestly, although it sounds dramatic, this is a tale as old as time and I must admit, I felt like I could really relate to this because I have done just that– found love and ran away. Although I’m done running, I still struggle with a sense of imposter syndrome when it comes to relationships. That’s what this song is about but the way that Ed is able to tell the story of such a sad, frustrating, and tense situation with such an infectious beat and sense of energy is insane. Maybe you can’t relate to the words in this track but I’ll bet it won’t take you long to fall into Ed Valdette’s sound of melodic alt-rock with a strong sound of synths and a heck of a lot of heart.
