I don’t agree with the title of this song. Okay, maybe in certain cases I do but I’m a headstrong kind of person and I’m all about fighting back whether that’s against the system, against stigmas, or against exhaustion. I’m a born and bred fighter so when I see a song titled “Don’t Fight Back” my first instinct is to fight back against it but there’s no way to fight the love I have for this song from Alpine Loop.
The first song from Alpine Loop’s new upcoming album, “Don’t Fight Back” is pop-punk perfection with a side dish of something a bit harder. There are moments of this song that remind me of old-school Blink 182 but other moments that feel a bit more technical and almost a bit mathy when it comes to the guitarwork. The way that Alpine Loop combines these two feelings and contrasting vibes is perfect and I love how, as a whole, this song tells a story. Although I’m a fighter, there’s something positive in nature about the tone of this song that I really liked and it even had me singing along to the line of words that I don’t particularly like. I may be way off here but I took this song as a track of empowerment. Rather than using the phrase “Don’t Fight Back” in the way I had in mind, Alpine Loop uses it as a motivational tool. They urge you to not fight back when things are going good. If magical things are happening, you shouldn’t fight back and that’s a message that I can whole-heartedly get behind. At first glance, I hated everything about this song but, now that I’m listening to it for the umpteenth time, I can not get enough of it.
