I didn’t go to a show last night. There was one happening but, truthfully, I just couldn’t find the energy or the motivation to get off the couch. I’m not proud of it but also not going to beat myself up over it. Wednesday night a rough day at the day job and we all need a little break here and there. That being said, I’m craving show and am hopeful that there will be one to go to tonight but, until then I guess checking out new music will have to suffice so let’s get the day started off right by checking out “Rat Bastard” from Mock Media.

This single to super artsy to the point of having almost avant-garde tendencies but, at the same time, it has a very power pop kind of energy behind it that makes it a super infectious bop. I wish I could name off some influences that I hear throughout this four minute track but, the truth is, I just can’t. Mock Media has a sound all of their own and it comes through loud and clear in this track. There’s something a little retro about some of the moments in this track and other moments that feel motivated and full of life. I really think that guitarist-vocalist Evan Aasen put it perfectly when he described the song as “a classic The Cars-inspired rock song to play on the radio while you’re in the shop, working on some rusty metal with the radio on in the background. ‘Rat Bastard’ is a song about everyone having a little rat bastard inside them, acting too wild. A pop rock song for the whole family to enjoy.
