Girl at the Rock Shows

Have you ever been “Sleepdrunk”? Honestly, I dont’ know exactly what it means to be “Sleepdrunk” but I know that will be the plan tonight after my show as I enjoy my brand new bed! That’s right, a big girl purchase happened, and I am finally replacing the bed that I have had since I moved to college nearly twenty years ago. This has nothing to do with this song from Pretty Baby but, come on, I’m freaking stoked for the new bed– almost as stoked as I am about this amazing track.

“Sleepdrunk” from Pretty Baby is one of those songs that came to me without any background. Although that means I can’t tell you what the band had in mind when writing this song or what the band means by “Sleepdrunk,” I can tell you that this song instantly caught my attention. It’s artsy and noisy with an almost abstract kind of composition to it. It’s a brief and pointed little number that lasts only three minutes but will take you on a full journey. Pretty Baby has a way with dynamics, and I could feel my own heartbreak rise and fall with the valleys and grooves that make up this epic storyline kind of song. From tender, beautiful moments to abrasive, aggressive notes, I loved how this song was all over the place, giving you a taste of what Pretty Baby is all about while leaving so many questions unanswered.
