I took Monday off to recover after my insane weekend at the Caterwaul festival here in Minneapolis. It was a whirlwind of a weekend full of so much amazing music, and I thought just having one day to get caught up on things would help. It didn’t because Monday night was a show of a lifetime. Although I’m feeling rejuvenated from the energy I felt during last night’s show, I’m definitely nowhere near as caught up for the week as I had hoped for but that’s okay because this week, although short, is going to be amazing since it’s starting off with “Lorem Ipsum” from Mount Saint Elias.

This is an anthemic rock song that speaks against the corporate grind. It’s for the people with a job that they swore they’d never have. Although I don’t fully fit into that category as I don’t fully hate my day job, I relate to the sentiment of the middle finger to the corporate everything. The lyrics are deep and emotional, but they are also sharp-tongued and funny at the same time. There’s something almost jazzy about the delivery of this song that I found super intriguing and refreshing, but I wouldn’t call this a jazz track. Overall, it’s an alt-rock anthem that exposes the false romantic narrative of adulthood. “Lorem Ipsum” reminds you to never forget that inner child we all have. Mount Saint Elias challenges you to let that inner child out and, as hard as that sounds and is to do, it’s a bit easier knowing that Mount Saint Elias is in your corner.
