“Barriers” is such a deep word. It can be physical, like physical barriers that keep you away from something, or it can be mental, like the mental barriers we all have that tell us we are not enough or that we aren’t doing something the way we should. At times, life feels like just a mess of barriers, and if you aren’t careful, you can get discouraged and give up due to them. This song from Dreams to Sell addresses that and reminds you that some of these barriers are all in your mind, and although those may be the hardest to get over, it’s worth it to try and do just that.
The layers throughout this song give this song a feeling of depth that matches the emotional topic of the track. Overall, it’s a post-rock sound, but there’s an emo-rock kind of emotion behind it and a catchiness to the track that leans ever so slightly into a pop-punk world. When you take all of these things together, you are left with the powerful track that is “Barriers” and it acts as a reminder to never give up. It’s not just in the powerful words of the track, it’s in the way this song ramps up until the very end. This is a nearly four-minute song of pure crescendo, but I love how subtle it is until you reach the end of this song and realize the journey that it has been. Whether this song speaks to your soul on a deep level or “Barriers” just hits like a perfectly placed anthem that gets stuck in your head, I highly suggest you check out this song from Dreams to Sell.
