It’s not raining right now. It’s actually quite gorgeous outside here in the Twin Cities, so it feels like an almost dangerous game to play to listen to a song called “Rain” on such a beautiful day, but I like to live some days dangerously, and today is one of those days, so let’s take the risk.
“Rain” kicks off with a slightly funky, very infectious line of notes that quickly builds into a ’90s-style kind of alt-rock song. That’s now where “rain” remains. This track seamlessly transitions from a 90s kind of alt-rock to a more modern pop-punk kind of song, and all the way to a track that has almost metalcore-leaning sensibilities. Lyrically, this song is depressing as all get out. The line “Rain follows me” instantly struck a chord with my soul because, honestly, that’s how things have felt over the past couple of days. At the same time, there’s something more comforting than depressing about the delivery of this song. That could be from the energy of the track or the power of the overall message of the song. Either way, I loved how cozy this song was while continuing to keep me from feeling like today is a manic Monday and, instead, keeping me feeling like it’s a motivated kind of Monday.
