Halcyon Club has a new album coming out in August. It’s their first release in five years. Truthfully, I had never heard of Halcyon Club prior to hearing the lead single from this upcoming album, but after just one listen, it had me hooked, and now I find myself counting down the days until the full album comes out.
This song is about that feeling of being held underwater by life, and, for the day back after a weekend away where I neglected work and emails almost the whole time, this song is painfully relatable. It’s not just about work, it’s about that feeling of drowning when it comes to various aspects of your life, but also about that triumphant feeling you get when you keep swimming on and reach a point where you can at least take a gasp of air. Truthfully, this song hit me in a way that was overwhelming. I’m trucking through today, keeping my head up and keeping the work flowing, but this song made me stop and realize what I was doing. I was just doggy paddling with a sense of panic and chaos. Listening to “Coming Home” made me feel like, although this is absolutely a rough day, it’s not the end of days, and the sound of Halcyon Club, and this song in particular, is going to be one of the main things that keeps me going.
