It’s a pretty dark and stormy Wednesday morning up here in Minneapolis, and the threat of severe weather has me a bit on edge, but I’m not going to let that ruin my day. Not at all. Instead, I’m going to have a great day because I’m kicking it off with the debut single from Northwest Indiana-based Mega Manhattan.

Megan Manhattan calls themselves a “heavy emo” band, and I think that’s the perfect way to describe them. Not only does their twinkly emo instrumentation pack serious power, but their vocals and lyrics also have a sense of depth that adds to the “heaviness” of this band. For a first-ever single, “Please Don’t Sip My Water” comes off as perfectly polished but not polished to the point where the grit and heart of this band is lost. In fact, that grit and heart are in the spotlight throughout this quick, two-minute, and forty-four-second song, which just adds to the way this song will grab you by the heart and have you hooked instantly. Soaring vocals, moments of extreme angst, glittery guitar work, and passion- Mega Manhattan is just getting started, and I can’t wait to hear what else this band has up their sleeves.
