Finish that sentence. “Silence Is”… It could be a million different things, right? Silence is bliss. Silence is golden. Silence is pain. “Silence Is” can lean into a million different things, but when it comes to this song from Pdubba-U, “Silence Is” absolutely perfect.
This song is the perfect blend of something nostalgic and something fresh. There are definitely nots to pop-punk bands of years gone by, but Pdubba-U has a groove that makes this song all their own. Hailing from Ogden, Utah, Pdubba-U gives nods to everything from post-hardcore to swancore, but makes sure that, no matter what influence you’re picking up on, emotion is at the forefront. This three-and-a-half-minute song isn’t just a lovely piece of art; it’s like a fleeting moment of time when everything in your brain is clear, and you are able to see and pick out certain memories while letting other things fall by the wayside. That sounds dramatic, I know, but this band’s use of space and, well, silence, is as tactful as it is beautiful, and it adds a sense of controlled drama to an already impressive and impactful song.
