The office is going to feel weird for the foreseeable future. I don’t think any of us realize how close you become with co-workers until they are gone, and when that disappearance is as final as death (and a super traumatic way on top of that), it’s hard. I feel like I’ve been on the verge of tears since I got here, and there was a car missing from the parking lot. Every time the door to the warehouse opens, I expect to see a certain face. That face isn’t there. It will never be there again. The office is somber, it’s dark, and it’s just a bunch of people trying to get through a day of work, knowing what happened and knowing that this office will never be the same. I’m doing just that– trying to get through the day, but I’ll be honest, it’s rough. I can’t concentrate on anything. Nothing sounds good, and every time the phone calls, I dread having to put my customer service voice on. I need to pull it together. A life stopped, but it wasn’t mine, and I need to remember that. The only way I know how is to lose myself in some music so let’s just take a breather and check out a new song.

I know that intro was all doom and gloom. That is not at all the vibe of this song, and that’s what makes it such a perfect Monday morning anthem. “Famous” from Fountain Island is a song about falling in love for the first time. It feels like a warm, California ocean kind of breeze with side notes of optimism and love. Right off the bat, this song reminded me of Sparks the Rescue meets Forever the Sickest Kids. I know both of those names are a bit dated and from a different era. You definitely get that golden-age pop-punk vibe here, but you also get something slightly more angsty and very fresh. “Famous” from Fountain Island is the kind of song that will instantly get stuck in your head and, no matter how rough your day is, will bring a smile to your face. Now excuse me while I blast this track for the entire office to hear so we can escape if only for the two minutes and forty-seconds that the track lasts.
