It has been almost a year since the first time I heard a song from Florissant. It has also been about a year since I’ve shared out a single from this band, but don’t be fooled. This band never left my head, and I hope the same can be said for you, but just in case you’ve forgotten about how amazing this band is, let me remind you by introducing you to their new song, “Cycles.”
“Cycles” is the second single from Florissant’s upcoming EP. It’s an emotionally driven anthem with a truly earworm-worthy hook that is all about getting through and breaking destructive cycles. My favorite thing about this song is how aggressive the instrumentation feels throughout, while the vocals remain smooth in contrast. From dazzling and glitter-like guitar work to drums that seem to fly by a breakneck speed, the instrumentation is definitely what drives this three-minute and fifteen-second song ahead. The vocals remain cool, calm, and collected against that speed and intricate work. It’s like you are not only hearing the destructive cycle in the intensity of the instrumentation, Florissant is showing you how to break it with the vocals and the way they seem to stay so level-headed. Don’t get me wrong, there is a beautiful moment when the vocals flip and turn into a beautiful moment of pure angst, but again, that just leans into the message of this song. If you’re in a bit of a cycle that you’ve been desperately trying to get out of, I highly suggest you check this song out and let it go into your ears and seep deep into your soul.
