The band I saw last night was all about the drama. It wasn’t emphasized drama or anything like that but I feel like between the insane talent and the foreign sounds that I was getting from the group, I was swimming through a world of drama in all of the right ways. I wanted that to carry on into my morning and I found the perfect song to help me do that.
“Shake Hands And Exit” from The Fierce and The Dead may not feel super dramatic at first, but as this epic, five-minute piece of art plays through, you hear so many different things and feel so many different emotions. It’s a strong and powerful song that stands on its own, but it’s a slow-burning kind of power. It’s not super aggressive or in your face, but there’s something about the way this song unfolds that creates such an insane sense of intensity, and that intensity will hit you like a ton of bricks. There’s an almost sludgey fuzz that comes with portions of this song that instantly had me hooked. I was just minding my own business, listening to this song while doing some work in the background, but quickly realized that the work had stopped. “Shake Hands And Exit” claimed not only my ears but my heart and soul all at the same time. Add in the twist that comes about three minutes in (that I am absolutely not going to ruin for you– you just have to hear it for yourself) and you are left with not just a song, but an epic tale to send you on a daydream of sorts.
