I took the weekend off from, well, everything. I barely opened my computer, didn’t go to any shows, and really just stuck around my brother’s house as I dogsat for him. Truthfully, it couldn’t have been any more perfect. I’m going to call it my birthday present to myself and not feel bad about taking a break, but now that I’m back at work, it sure does feel good to get back in the swing of things. The only thing missing is some new music, so let’s start the day (and my week) off right by checking out “Joureys – Summer Version” from PepeTheMenace.
Right off the bat, this song truly does feel like summer, and I swear that’s not just because of the mention of California in the first line. This song is light and bright. It’s pretty minimalist, which, I know, is not typically my kind of jam, especially when trying to amp myself up for the day, but, at the same time, there’s something so energizing and comforting about this song. The simplicity soaks into your soul like a summer sun soaks into your skin. Behind all of the sunshine and rainbows is an undeniable sense of heart and fire. Although this song feels light and fresh, as it moves on, you realize just how much depth PepeTheMenace has put into every word and note. All in all, “Journeys – Summer Version” is the perfect song for an early Sunday morning when you just need a moment to set yourself and your day up for success.
