Girl at the Rock Shows

I’m somehow getting caught up after my wacky and wild weekend in Chicago for Riot Fest. I say “somehow” because I honestly thought it would take me all day and that day would be full of tears and breakdowns but I’m staying strong and just powering through everything I missed. I’m feeling good, and that means it’s time to take a break and check out another new song. This one is coming hot from Catnip.

The first line of this song had me hooked. “You said you wanted a spider. I said that that’s dumb.” I mean, come on, having a spider is dumb, but in true pop-punk fashion, Catnip flips the script and allows the spider-owning in just one more line. “Spider” from Catnip is your typical pop-punk song about love and love lost. It’s about growing up, making mistakes, learning from mistakes, but never truly growing up. That makes no sense, I know, but for you pop-punk lovers out there, you get it, and that’s all that matters. “Spider” straddles the line between nostalgic classic pop-punk and something a bit more modern Midwest-emo feeling, and it’s a perfect balance. You get angst, you get tenderness, you get energy, and you get calm. “Spider” is quick at just one minute and fifty seconds long but it will definitely get you hooked into Catnip’s world in a lovely way.
