What’s that saying? “I’ll sleep when I’m dead”? “There ain’t no rest for the wicked”? Whatever it is, that’s what I’m feeling. I was starting to think that I would have tonight off from shows and some time to finally get caught up on stuff, but I just got approved to photograph a show tonight. I’m excited, as it’s one that I wanted, but I’m also just downright exhausted. I need to keep my head up. I need to get through the workday, and then I can take a quick nap to try and recharge in time for tonight’s show. I still have a few hours until that happens, though, so here’s to hoping that “Main Character Syndrome” from Mega Manhattan can breathe some life into me for at least the next couple of hours.
In true Mega Manhattan fashion, “Main Character Syndrome” is a bombastic single full of nostalgic pop-punk hooks and gritty post-hardcore edge. This is the kind of breath of life that I needed and, although nearly four minutes long and clearly a well-composed and organized song, it didn’t feel like enough. Mega Manhattan is a band that I’ve been sharing singles from for a hot minute now. I don’t typically like to play favorites, but, come on, just listen to this song. This band is pure perfection. The way they balance hot and cold, angsty and calm, gritty and smooth– it’s just so damn perfect, and I feel like you really get to see that in this latest single. Although I love all of the singles I share out with you on a daily basis, I don’t add them all to my daily playlist that I let spin when I’m working, but this one absolutely landed on that list.
