I love getting to know bands from other countries. It helps remind me just how large this world is but how much music can bring people together regardless of how many miles separate them. That’s why I was so stoked to have the chance to chat with Mayberian Sanskülotts vocalist Zita Csordás!

How would you describe your music to your grandma?
Granny, this music is good, because your little granddaughter is in the band.

What’s the most awkward date you’ve ever been on?
Once a guy – who I never liked and didn’t even consider nice – asked me out on a date. I don’t know why but I said yes. Days later he texted me: “hi, I’m here, where are you?” But I had forgotten about the date and I was watching TV at home in my pajamas. I texted him back that this is the situation and that I definitely wouldn’t be going to meet him and that it was probably better like that. That was a bit awkward.

If you could compare yourself to a bird, what bird would it be and why?
Maybe a swallow. It can live anywhere in the world, easily adapts to new places, loves its family, and always beautifies its nest.

Favorite lyrics of all time? (it can be a full song, a phrase, etc. just please let me know who it is and what song!)
Trabant – Itt van, pedig senki se hívta

If you were to rob a bank, what would be the song playing in the getaway car as you escape?
Fleetwood Mac – The Chain

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
Erykah Badu. Once we played at the Primavera Festival in Barcelona, God knows why, but because of this opportunity, I had the chance to see one of my favorite musicians, Erykah Badu. It was one of, if not the best concert I ever saw in my life. The other one was an Amen Dunes concert in Vienna. It was so touching and beautiful, and I’m really in love with the way that Damon McMahon sings. It’s so unique and special.

What is the best thing that happened to you during the pandemic?
I had a lot of time to play Heroes of Might and Magic III, and other games on Playstation. And I finally had time to watch the whole series of Downton Abbey. I loved that period.

Have you ever been able to finish a Rubik’s Cube?
Never. Not even one color.

What’s the worst concert you’ve ever been to and why?
Robert Glasper. He played in Budapest once. I bought the ticket because I knew he was a big deal, someone who I have to see, but I fell asleep after the second song because I was bored and I realized I hated how he plays the piano. For me, it was really kitschy.

Favorite method of listening to music (i.e. vinyl, cassette, 8-track, etc.)
For now, unfortunately, and despite all of my oppositions, I became a vinyl-lover hipster, so vinyl is my choice.

What’s one thing I should know before listening to ‘God Tiger Need Chemical Work’?
Never take anything from us seriously.

If you had the replace all of the drums on your record with a different instrument, what instrument would you choose?

A mix of marimba, koto, meows, and woofs with delay effect.

I’m not going to lie, immediately after reading through Zita’s answers, I went back to listen to some of their songs with the idea of marimbas, meows, and woofs in my head and holy crap was it perfect! Seriously though, it’s crazy how although we are worlds apart, there are so many things I found relatable in Zita’s answers.
