I talk a lot of crap on my home state but, the truth is, I wouldn’t be who I am without growing up in “Dead” Moines, Iowa. It sparked my passion for music and gave me opportunities to go to shows and even work in record stores growing up. It has it’s small town charm but, growing up, it was my personal hell. I hated everyone knowing my parents and felt like I just couldn’t quite find my footing in such a small town. Now that I’m older, I appreciate Iowa for what it was– a place for me to grow and leave but now that I realize I wouldn’t be who I am without the state, I feel like I crave things from my hometown and state so when I saw a song titled “Iowa Again”, I couldn’t help but feel a little emotional.
Now that I’ve talked your ear off about my love/hate relationship with Iowa, let’s talk about how amazing “Iowa Again” is. Honestly, there’s something familiar about Leaving Warren’s name but, furthermore, something familiar about the sound. I’m not sure if this is a name from my past or it’s just bringing all of the nostalgia from my Iowa years. Regardless, this song had me feeling all the feelings. Even if you can’t relate to the Iowa aspect of this song, it’s just a solid jam full of passion, heart and fire. There’s a sense of angst that comes through here and there but, overall, this song reads like just a downright infectious jam.
Whether or not I’ve heard of Leaving Warren before, after hearing “Iowa Again”, I am definitely in love and plan on doing a deep dive yet this afternoon.
