I just saw Death Cab For Cutie on Sunday night. I didn’t write about it because it was a show that I just wanted to attend, not judge but, in case you were curious– it was amazing. Why do I bring this up? Well, I’ve had Death Cab and The Postal Service (who was also playing on Sunday) songs stuck in my head ever since so it seemed like fate that a band named Soul Meets Body would come across my desk now. All that being said, Soul Meets Body’s new song “Forfeit” is nothing like Death Cab or Postal Service but it’s still absolutely amazing and worth your attention.
This song is pop-punk-perfection but with a twist. The vocals throughout “Forfeit” are so sweet and almost bubblegum pop sounding at times but there’s something also super deep about this song that I adore. I honestly couldn’t tell if that depth comes from the inflection of certain words or the words themselves but that’s beside the point. This song comes off as raw and real which instantly had me sold. The instrumentation is another twist on this pop-punk perfection. There are times where it has an almost folk-punk jangle to it. Overall this song is quite a bit more chill than what I typically share with you but it’s a solid freaking track that you will surely fall in love with after first listen!
