Las Vegas was a whole lot of fun. Seeing Good Charlotte perform for the first time in five years was nothing short of a religious experience for me as was my first experience at a Taco Bell Cantina (it’s a Taco Bell where they also serve alcohol and, if you know me, you know that this was a bucketlist thing for me). It was a great vacation and I feel like my head is still fuzzy from it all but it’s Tuesday and that means I’m back at work and trying to get caught up. Getting caught up on work-work is boring so let’s get caught up on some new music, shall we?
Although I wouldn’t call “The Spark” from Human Missile Crisis a pop-punk-perfect kind of track, there’s something infectious and pop-punk leaning about it that caught me right off the bat. I would call this more of just a good ol’ fashioned punk song with almost alt-rock tendencies that, at times, even lean a bit into the shoegaze world of things. Regardless of if you want to call this punk, pop-punk, alt-rock, whatever, this song has an “instant classic” kind of vibe to it. A little fuzz in the recording quality gives it a bit of a vintage flare but the energy that comes from everything going on in the track keeps it from feeling dated.
I know it’s technically Tuesday but, for me, it’s more like a Monday and “The Spark” was a perfect way to kick off my week.
