It has to be hard to get a band back together after a five year hiatus. I mean, just think, how different are you now from five years ago? Now add a group of people that went through that much change, put them in a room, and tell them to write cohesive music together. Quite a feat yet Maudlin Strangers has pulled it off with their first new song after a five-year hiatus.
I have to be honest, I wasn’t hip to Maudlin Strangers before hearing “I’m Not In The Right Mind” so I can’t relate it back to their pre-hiatus music but I can tell you that this is awesome. It has a classic indie-rock sound very reminiscent of The Arctic Monkeys. The beat isn’t ridiculously quick or anything yet that but it’s an instant bop with an infectious energy that will surely be an earworm for you for the rest of the day. Although this isn’t a straight-up Halloweeny styled track, there is something a bit spooky about some of the instrumentation in this song making the timing absolutely perfect so get in the holiday spirit and get ready for the return of Maudlin Strangers with “I’m Not In The Right Mind”.
