I just smashed my #6 from Jimmy John’s in record time. Please hold your applause but I am super proud of myself for this new record. I need a little celebration and what better way to celebrate than with a folk metal song?
I feel like folk metal had it’s time in the spotlight but quickly faded away. If you’re as bummed about that as I am, have no fear, KANSEIL is here to bring this unique and exciting genre back into the spotlight. Their new song “Antares” is classic folk metal. There’s really nothing else that needs to be said about the style of this track because that says it all but, when you add the music video to this track, you are truly transported into a whole other world (which seems to be what the video depicts in a way so it’s truly perfect). My favorite thing about KANSEIL is that they use traditional instruments. This should be a no brainer when it comes to folk metal but I feel like there were some bands in the scene that got big for this sound yet forgot about the roots (I swear I won’t mention any names). KANSEIL definitely honors theirs roots throughout this song and does it with such a fiery sense of passion that you will start to wondering if folk-metal ever really died or if you have just been blind to the magic that is still happening in this scene.
