Do you ever hear a song, imagine what the band configuration is in your head while listening to it, and then are shocked to find out that you were wrong about everything? That’s what happened the first time I heard “Never Fade Away” from Reconciler.
I love the way the instrumentation leads you into this song before the vocals come in and whisk you away to the perfect world that is Reconciler. With a little bit of a punky Laura Jane Grace emotional edge and an undeniable sense of energy that feels a bit more like Iron Chic or Grad Life, I was instantly hooked and had an image in my head of what this band would be like to see live. This image contained a full band. You know, vocals, guitar, bass, drums, maybe an extra guitar player just to give Reconciler’s sound that depth that you hear so clearly in “Never Fade Away”. I was honestly shocked when I found out that this band is actually a trio. Like I said at the beginning, I was shocked to find out I was wrong when it came to what I was envisioning when it came to Reconciler but also loved it. The fact that this trio had me fooled into thinking they were a much larger act due to the sheer power and emotion that comes through in “Never Fade Away” says volumes and definitely has Reconciler near the top of my list of bands that I need to see live next year.
