Girl at the Rock Shows

My ears are absolutely still ringing from the Nelly show last night. It was a loud one and I was super close to the speakers which means soft noises are treating me a bit better than loud ones. At the same time, I need a burst of energy so, apologies to my ears, I think it’s best that we start this Friday off with a powerful track like “I AM THE ONE” from Family Man.

I really love the dissonant sound that kicks off this track. It catches your ear while also leading you into Family Man’s world without giving too much away. Honestly, I’m not sure what there is to give away about this band. Throughout this two minute and forty-six second song, I feel like you never really hear Family Man settle into one sound or style but that’s the magic here. From post-punk to hardcore to noise to electronica– you get it all in this track and none of it should fit together yet what Family Man has done with all of these sounds and styles is brilliant. Sure, the song feels a bit scattered and all over the place but it works and, when the journey that is “I AM THE ONE” is over and done, you will surely be left with a couple of questions and a new addiction in the form of Family Man.
