Doll Riot played at Punk Rock Bowling last year. Although I was at the festival and it’s the kind of festival where you can see every single band you if you want due to the expertly staggered timing, I missed them. Thankfully for me, they will be on the line-up again this coming year and, after hearing “Those Days” from this group, I will not be making the same mistake twice.
Doll Riot has an attitude problem and I love it. Okay, it’s not a problem, but you slight Riot Grrrl energy from this track that I adore but can also come off a bit bratty in all of the right ways. An infectious guitar lick matched with angsty and heartfilled lyrics are just two of the elements in this track that makes it an instant banger. Although the members of this group are young, they know exactly what they’re doing and you can hear it throughout this quick two and a half minute song. Although I could relate the sound here to a lot of modern bands (the main one that comes to mind is Scowl), you can also hear that this group knows where their music comes from with nods to the greats of years gone by. Doll Riot is currently wrapping up a new album and I truly can not wait to hear it.
