Girl at the Rock Shows

I was first drawn to “just say no to never” because of the band name. It used to be “Motley Jew” but the band just recently changed it to “hesitant”. I low key get it. Motley Jew isn’t quite politically correct and, in this day and age, it’s just a weird time to use “Jew” in a band name. I hate saying that. As a Jew myself, it’s a weird time to be alive. I was bummed when I saw that the band changed their name but I also understood why. That being said, this song is still just as awesome with this more standard band name.

The latest single off of the band’s upcoming album ‘seasons of grief’, “just say no to never” is shoegazey perfection with a side dose of grunge inspired alt-rock. I love the texture of this song. The guitars that seem to echo and twinkle while letting the vocals take control of this track are truly captivating while everything else in this track seems to just fall into it’s place perfectly. On top of the overall sound of this song is the brilliant composition. The song has a true ebb and flow to it but it’s probably not what you were expecting. The highs and lows are expertly placed to where they aren’t predictable but, when they hit, they hit perfectly. On top of that, the ending of this track brings a true twist to the song. I may have been drawn to this song because of the old band name but I stayed because “just say no to never” from hesitant (FKA Motley Jew) is just absolutely perfect and brilliant.
