Girl at the Rock Shows

It’s Saturday. My house is a bit insane as my boyfriend recently moved in and he has his two kids this weekend. Honestly, I love the bustling sound of my house right now but could do without the constant cleaning and organizing that comes with trying to blend the two very different houses. I’m giving up for the time being so now seems like the perfect time to immerse myself in some new music.

I was warned that “Of Pirates & Supermen” by David Kirby had a super long intro. Typically, this would be a turn off for me but, within the first few words of this four minute and twenty second song, I was hooked. David’s voice is gorgeous. It comes through loud and clear but comes with a silky smooth component that wraps you up like a cozy blanket. Sure, the intro here is a bit hollow as far as instrumentation goes but that voice kept me hanging on for the best part– when the band comes in. This song may start soft and tender but it quickly turns into an anthemic rock song. The best part of this is the fact that David’s voice doesn’t change. Even as the song gains traction and power, there’s this super amazing sense of tenderness and heart in the vocals.

If you’re looking for a song to help you power through what I’m sure is a busy Saturday, “Of Pirates & Supermen” by David Kirby is the song for you.
